CR-213c PINK LAMBERT Cylinder Record #48 “Der Gute Kamerade”, Song. Cylinder is in EXCELLENT original condition, as is the box. SUPER RARE!!! Inside the cylinder is the pencil mark “48” indicating its correctness. All three inner supports at the title end are there. The Pat. date Mc’h.20th,1900 is exactly how it appears on this cylinder. The lettering is faint but mostly readable.
Regarding this (pink) LAMBERT CYLINDER RECORD #48:
I played the cylinder all the way through. It has a loud piano and clear male voice, sung in German. No skipping. Crackling surface noise sounds throughout playing. The ‘white’ spots are not mold. No audible sounds are heard when the stylus passes over them. I think the discoloration (spots and some surface area) is from the original creation process, and may be age related..
The cylinder number is #48, a very low number. The cylinder’s inner edge is perfectly round but is very tight and should not be forced over the mandrel or it might crack. (Maybe some sanding the inner edge would make it fit better or further in.) The outer edge, where the title is printed, shows a very tiny chip. The printing is barely readable.
The early Lambert cylinders have three wedges inside the outer rim to balance the cylinder on the mandrel. This feature was later halted and the cylinder would then go further on the mandrel resting the inner cylinder edge fully on the mandrel. As is, if the cylinder is not carefully centrally positioned on the mandrel, the cylinder could wobble but still be playable.
This is a very early and rare Lambert Indestructible cylinder Record production. It is surprising to find such a cylinder record in existence – a collectible and fine museum-quality item (my opinion).
